The HR Department was set up in 2001 upon seeing that Kiwi SMEs required much greater support for the HR part of their operations. The intention of my business was to take on the entirety of this function, while also providing an advocacy service for both employees and employers. Importantly I’m not just about HR theory, I also focus on businesses’ bottom lines.
My expert skills in people management, business management and customer service perfectly aligned with providing these HR services to business. With a Bachelor of Business Studies Degree in marketing and finance from Massey University, I have worked in various sectors, including manufacturing, customer service, finance, retail and transport. A little more about my career path follows.
My appreciation of the stresses and pressures facing any contemporary business started with managing a flower shop for three years before attending university, and upon graduating working in various management roles.
In 2001 I worked with the Swedish Volvo Ocean Racing Team, Assa Abloy, and travelled around the world as part of the management of the shore crew during the 2001-2002 Volvo Ocean Race.
Upon returning to New Zealand I joined the largest global shipping company Maersk Line, where I assisted the management team through the acquisition of P&O Nedlloyd.
I have two children and am a keen runner and squash player.
I work with clients to get the most out of their employment relationships. I specialise in Alternative Dispute Resolution and work with my clients to resolve any issues and find a win-win outcome.
I have a Master of Business Studies Degree with Honours in Dispute Resolution (Mediation/Arbitration), a Bachelor of Business Studies in Communication Management and from the University of Auckland completed certifications required to work as a Resource Management Commissioner and in Family Court Mediation. In 2004 I completed six years working as a Dispute Tribunal Referee in the Napier Court. I have also lectured in Human Resource Management in New Zealand at tertiary level.
I am on the Panel and a Fellow of the Mediators and Arbitrators Institute of New Zealand and a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
My experience working with boards and councils comes from in the past being on the Hawkes Bay Regional Council and Hastings District Council, serving as a lay person on the Hawkes Bay Legal Services Committee, Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Conservations Board and the New Zealand Dental Technicians Board. I am also a Director of Air Hawkes Bay Ltd.
